Frequently Asked Questions

Is this affiliated with the NC DMV?

No. NC Driving Log is an independent tracking tool.

Does this replace the DL-4A form?

It fills the official DL-4A with your logged drives and calculated totals. You review the completed form, print it, sign it, and submit it according to current NCDMV instructions.

Is there a subscription?

No. Logging and tracking are free. A one-time $10 payment unlocks the printable, pre-filled DL-4A form.

Can I edit a drive after I save it?

Yes. You can edit a saved drive and update the date, minutes, time of day (day or night), or supervisor information.

Can I add drives from earlier dates?

Yes. You can back-fill earlier supervised drives as long as the date is not in the future. Keep entries accurate, and remember North Carolina counts no more than 10 hours per week toward the 60-hour requirement.

Will the exported PDF be accepted at the DMV?

The export is designed for North Carolina permit-hour tracking and produces a DL-4A-ready PDF, but NC Driving Log cannot guarantee acceptance by every DMV office or any agency. Review your information before submitting and follow current NCDMV instructions.

What happens to my data?

NC Driving Log stores the information needed to provide the service: your email address and the driving log details you enter, including drive dates, day and night minutes, and supervisor details. The site uses no ad trackers, no third-party or cross-site tracking, and no tracking cookies. For analytics we use anonymized, server-side-only visit counting, with no personal information stored.

Who can be a supervising driver under NC law?

For North Carolina learner-permit driving, the supervising driver generally must be a parent, grandparent, guardian, or another responsible person approved by the parent, guardian, or NCDMV, and must have been licensed for at least five years. Check current NCDMV materials for the full rule and any updates.

Is my data secure?

Yes. Your entries are saved securely and accessible only through your private login link.
